Dr Rupert Sheldrake, PhD, is a biologist and author best known for his hypothesis of morphic resonance. At Cambridge University, as a Fellow of Clare College, he was Director of Studies in biochemistry and cell biology. As the Rosenheim Research Fellow of the Royal Society, he carried out research on the development of plants and the ageing of cells, and together with Philip Rubery discovered the mechanism of polar auxin transport. In India, he was Principal Plant Physiologist at the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics, where he helped develop new cropping systems now widely used by farmers. He is the author of more than 100 papers in peer-reviewed journals and his research contributions have been widely recognized by the academic community, earning him a notable h-index for numerous citations. On ResearchGate his Research Interest Score puts him among the top 4% of scientists.

Fields as Formal Causes, with David Bentley Hart
Переглядів 12 тис.День тому
In this conversation, Rupert Sheldrake and David Bentley Hart delve into the concept of fields in physics, discussing their nature as non-material formative causes and their historical context in scientific thought. They explore the idea that fields, such as gravitational and electromagnetic, act as top-down causes, aligning with Aristotle's formal and final causes, and argue for a re-evaluatio...
The Fullness of Life: Sheldrake-Vernon Dialogue 88

At school, we learn that being alive is to possess certain functions, from respiration to reproduction. But what is life and why can the word “life” be used more widely than referring only to biological life? In the latest episode of the Sheldrake-Vernon Dialogues, Rupert Sheldrake and Mark Vernon consider the meaning of saying that stars have a lifecycle, and that rocks and atoms can be ascrib...

They consider the relationship between matter and gravi...
The Nature of Phantom Limbs

After the amputation of a limb, most amputees experience a phantom limb in the place where their limb used to be. Subjectively, these phantoms feel real even though they do not behave like normal limbs and can be pushed through solid objects. The standard theory is that these phantoms are produced as illusions inside the brain, but Rupert suggests they may be the subjective experience of the fi...

Thank you for this. It's a tremendous comfort to hear from people who're not afraid of dying, especially during those times of life where it seems to be all around. I witnessed my Dear Dad going through the process of a natural death - and the loss of interest in both food and water sounds a bit like that practice the monks enter into by choice. I wish we understood it more in the West, as so many people feel nurses and doctors are failing their loved ones, when they honour the process, instead of fighting against it. Despite being an Atheist, we saw my Dad talking to his dead brother at one point as though he was in the room with us. For anyone who does fear death, after having a bad experience on psychedelics, please remember the narratives we see there, pertain purely to our relationships with the plants and fungi that invoke them. To think they're relations of absolute reality is ignoring their biological purpose which is simply to govern behaviour within an ecosystem. They may give us insights into reality beyond our normal bandwidth and are useful in that way - but the shift in perspective after death won't be mediated through the body any more and so is likely to be unlike anything we've known before. The fact we see people apparently helped towards the end, even if the ancestor visions are just visions - indicates evolutionary pressure that has created a structured process of transition - which may in turn be indication that life continues beyond life on Earth.

Utterly wonderful conversation. One quibble: Dr Sheldrake could well afford to actually read one or two of the books of the late Norman Vincent Peale. I've read several of them. I'm not a fundamentalist Christian (tho a Christian in a broad sense) and I don't follow the full creed that Peale seems to favor. However, he is not just a Magic Vacuum Cleaner Salesman. He's far from a clownish buffoon. Nor does he propound the notion that you can make something happen just by wishing for it. To see him in his true light, you need to appreciate the American background. Over here, unlike in Britain or Europe, people are born into insecurity and they stay there for the rest of their lives--unless they work extraordinarily hard or enjoy incredible luck. The first thing you learn here, right in your earliest childhood, is that the world is harsh, that the government will do very little to help you when you struggle, and that for you to succeed it is necessary for others to fail. (I exaggerate to some extent and I'm leaving out some excellent parts of the American Way). I lived a long time in Europe and I saw the difference between the European and American style of life. To get to the point: In America, a man like Peale broadcasts what is actually a kinder and gentler philosophy than the harsh, overly capitalistic lessons of American society. He assures people that Goodness counts, that there is Love at the foundation of the cosmos, and that other people can help provide you with a great deal of the warmth and security we all need. This is the real meaning of his Power of Positive Thinking: There is a Force for Good and you can find it. What in the world is wrong with that? (Compare it to the professional pessimism so widespread in Germany, for instance.) In Europe, there would be less need for that message. Over here, it's a welcome counter to the harshness of our capitalist ways. By the way, Peale also emphasizes getting out of the ratrace and enjoying the peaceful and contemplative aspects of life. Dr Sheldrake, please give the man a chance. And thanks to the two of you for your brilliantly stimulating discussions!

Excellent discussion. As a simple minded layman, I nevertheless find Rupert’s thinking innovative, superbly imaginative. A truly gifted, original thinker with a deep soul and so guided by a genius intuition

When we die we lose touch with the 3rd dimension because we lose our physical bodies, but life continues to be the same because you have your avatar in each realm (or dimensions) around the earth. The 12th realm is heaven (three levels or realms) and many of us in here live in there too.

This effect could be the effect of relinquishing the personal physical identity at death. The body begins the power down process and the identity, the ego……fades. Then there is energy, the natural energy of a stateless psychology, yes for animals too. If brain scans of before and after were studied you might see differences in the part of the brain that deals with ego, if there is such a part. The egoic structure patterns the brain from a young age. When this structure breaks down there is a big release of energy as the patterns de-organise or break down in the brain. The coherence of an unpatterned brain then operates until the end

the problem is-- Rupert insists that the sun is conscious but the moon is not. You can't have it both ways and this is not a competition. it's not even rational. the moon and the sun are the eyes of Vishnu. They are either both alive, or neither is. we are either alive OR we are not. you do not get to choose who lives and who dies among something that is a so-called aggregate. you do not own nature, Rupert-- you merely benefit from it (for now, old man). the year is 2024. furthermore-- Gaia "owns" the moon and she is alive. the moon orbits the earth and in vedic philosophy-- moon is her creation. even more than that-- Mercury is the child of Gaia aka "Maia". every single body in the heavens is alive and contributes to mental activity in the group mind. if you pretend to dominate any of it, your spatial illusion becomes the vacuum and consumer prison you currently live in. My experience with you has taught me that we are all just animals lead to the slaughter in order to power your stupid cuckoo clock while providing the battlefield you gorillas use to slaughter your own families. have fun with your lame creation because i have tried my best.

There is nothing really new about this situation, it's quite normal. You need to look at history, Copernicus, Kepler, Galileo, now considered the prophets and founders of modern science were the heretics of their days. Most, if not all, major scientific advances are made by heretics. It seems to be the natural progression of science.

I’ve been getting more snd more telepathic as I get older. I’d say I’m pretty strongly telepathic, for a human. I’ve been reading Dogs That Know when Their Owners Are Coming Home 😂. I’ve noticed that, when I’m in the vicinity of an obelisk, my telepathy is very noticeably enhanced. I discovered this organically and then researched obelisks because of my experiences. Obelisks are known to enhance spiritual powers. I think the theory of the morphic fields makes sense based on my experience with obelisks enhancing my telepathy significantly. An obelisk seems to be a tool that amplifies energy within morphic field.

This is beautiful! The magnet pieces exhibit the properties of repulsion and attraction inherently due to the internal configurations and states of their atoms and subatomic constituents. It's these configurations and states that give rise to all reactions and interactions, the direction of energy flows not withstanding.

A magnet can stick for, conceivably, hundreds of years because it would take more energy and information over a shorter period to remove and displace it than it does to let it persist in the condition it was already set. The same is true of why matter persists and yet an induced charge does not, though both are fundamentally fields. Unless the energy rate thresholds are overcome to an extent which changes the dynamic the universe is fine to toil away at the natural methods in the decay and diffusion of things as they sit.

[Is the sun conscious?] Consciousness and galaxies have something in common: they violate our current understanding of nature. Consciousnes is _the_ hard problem, but the formation of galaxies is no soft problem either. Dark matter was specifically conjured up to explain how Galaxies don't fly apart into amorphous globules of stars, as should happen under General Realtivity according to the amount of matter we can currently observe. It's a way of just assuming that the matter we need for our equations to make sense must be there somehow and it's dark because we can't prove it exists. It's magical thinking on a scale that dwarfs the Flat Earth Society, but it's right there in the textbooks. Consciousness is a similar thing in reverse: we're trying to get rid of it, but everything anyone tries to do in order to handwave it away only proves that it's there. The more ingenious, the less effective.

Traditional Christian theology is practically shamanism I.E the universal pre-religion. The reason Christianity is dying out is that nothing resembling this universal religion -- The True Vine -- ever comes out of the pulpit. It's all just the watchmaker God. If naturalistic determinism is the attempt to kill God and eliminate vitalism, then contemporary exoteric Christianity buys into the idea that God can be killed by continuing to preach the paternalistic roboticist god that it does. It endorses aloof moralistic lawgiver images of the divine when you would think Christianity of all faiths would be alive to the immanent reality of God.

I lost my Persian cat a few years ago and to this day I cannot tell the story of his passing without breaking down in tears. During his troubles with kidney disease I tried so hard to make sure he wasn’t suffering by visiting the vets regularly. If I told you some of the things that happened during my time with him during the last months of his life you wouldn’t believe me because even I find it hard to believe myself but suffice to say they were indeed magical events which led me to believe I had magical powers and that I could do certain things which enabled me to keep him alive longer that I thought was possible. In the end I asked him to let me know when he wanted to go as I just couldn’t make the decision to end his life. Not long afterwards I was with him in my bedroom moving a pile of magazines on the floor beside my bed when I noticed how wet they were in fact they were completely wet through and discoloured. At first I thought I must have spilt water on them but on closer inspection I could see that my beloved cat had been peeing on them which was something he had never done before so I realised it was his way of saying that it was his time to leave so I rang the vet to make an appointment for them to come to our house and and they said they had just had a cancellation so they could come immediately . The rest of the story is the part that can to this day break me into a thousand pieces just saying what happened but that is only because my cat showed me how much he loved me. I truly do believe in a higher power since I had those experiences but it hasn’t helped to mend my broken heart since his passing.
